I just returned from a short trip to Portugal, visiting Lisbon and the Algarve.  What a beautiful place, but I have to say the topography outside of the cities was a lot like we see here in California.  The city had its old world charm with bustling shoppers, open air cafes, and historic architecture.  I saw no visible sign of a deep recession there; everyone was drinking, dining and buying like crazy!
The people seemed happy and calm; I had fun, to say the least. 

Sometimes it is wise to get out of our little US box, and experience new sights, sounds, tastes, people and cultures.

In difficult times like these- when stress is at an all time high - we must remember to take care of ourselves.  Sit in a bath tub full of hot water and bubble bath. Today i took my children to The Museum of Tolerance, located in Los Angeles, California. Although we had all viewed many horrific scenes from past WWII on television, visiting the exhibits at this museum left us quiet and thoughtful. It is amazing to KNOW that that level of hatred witnessed could really exist…but when one sees that this same kind of hatred and intolerance exist today- right here shown to our faces daily through the internet and other media sources - it makes me wonder what one person can do to stop this or at least do my part to see that we do not repeat the history witnessed through WWII.

What the museum expresseed, and I agree, is that ONE VOICE can make a difference. So, here I am, in my little protected San Clemente town with my little san Clemente shop erba, wishing for love and peace for us all. We all deserve no less. Let us not forget the past! Know your history. Get your family to that, and other museums!

I have many people coming into my shop Erba in San Clemente, California wondering about shea butter.  Erba offers many products with this nutty balm included in the products, so these gals know who to come to for this tid bit of information.

Please keep in mind, that when you shop independent retailers in your local community you not only are helping to sustain a unique shopping experience but also helping your local community overall.  Studies show that when you shop local stores like ours, $ .64 of every dollar you spend comes right back into your local community.  When you shop at big box corporate shops (like Target, Nordstroms, Walmart) ONLY $ .14 cents on the dollar is reinvested in the local economy.  That’s a big jump!

I personally do my best to SHOP LOCAL!  I do not want to see any Del Mar or other independent businesses with closed doors posting signs on them “out of business.” I think about how I would feel walking down Main street viewing stores closed down.  I do not think it would make me feel too good in any way, irrespective of whether erba was one of the economic victims or not.

We all have to get through this together… and let’s face it, things are tight for most of us.  I hope what you might take away from this is a simple nudge to remember that when you do shop, do your best to support the local shops who’s businesses we all love, find unique, and help support the folks that live right here in town.

Please shop LOCAL!  Please eat LOCAL!  Please use Local services, whenever you can.  Forget the big guys- they can handle this down turn!

We’ll…that’s me on my soapbox.  If you know me you will know that this nudge is not solely about hoping you will shop at erba, but ALL local stores in whatever area you live.

Again, we are grateful that you are our customer and your loyalty to erba has never been taken for granted.  Peace be with you!  Remember… everything will be OK!  And as Obama says, remember to choose hope over fear!  I know i have in my continued battle with breast cancer- and that hope gets me through day by day.
